Hong Kong

Community
During his many years based in Hong Kong, Simon supported a broad range of local organisations, both personally and through Segantii. His involvement focused on initiatives that strengthened the wider community, particularly in the areas of health, education and support for young people. This work reflected a long‑term commitment to contributing positively to the city in which he lived and built his business.

Health and Community

Since 2011, Segantii has donated a total of HK$14 million to Operation Santa Claus (OSC), supporting over 140 projects. OSC is Hong Kong’s annual charity fundraising drive organised by the South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong. It is distinctive in the visibility it provides to community needs, helping beneficiaries raise awareness while also attracting additional funding and volunteers.

Simon and Segantii provided support to ImpactHK, a Hong Kong-based charity working with people experiencing homelessness, with Simon and many of Segantii’s staff participating in ImpactHK’s Kindness Walks programme alongside partners such as JPMorgan. These walks focussed on building trust and connection with individuals living on the streets through regular engagement and the direct distribution of essential items such as food, water and hygiene supplies.

Segantii supported the early work of the Karen Leung Foundation between 2013 and 2017. The Foundation focuses on increasing awareness of the HPV vaccine in Hong Kong, and Segantii’s backing helped to advance its initial efforts to promote understanding of the vaccine and its importance in preventing disease.

Since 2014, Simon and Segantii also supported the vital work of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund. This organisation helps cancer patients, their family members and care givers with physical and psychological help and advice on living with or caring for someone who has cancer.

Segantii was also a long‑standing supporter of the Fund Managers’, Asian Bankers’, and Brokers’ Awards (FABBAS), an annual Hong Kong event that brought together finance professionals to raise funds for charitable causes. Over many years, the event supported organisations including the Crossroads Foundation and Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital, with Segantii acting as a major donor throughout its involvement.

Animal welfare is also an important cause for Simon, his wife Gillian and their children, reflecting their wider belief in giving care and protection to those who need it most.

Animals Asia Foundation works across several countries in Asia to improve the treatment of animals, including efforts to end the bear bile industry in Vietnam, protect moon bears in China, combat the dog and cat meat trade, and improve the welfare of captive animals through advocacy and engagement with authorities. Simon and Segantii have supported the Foundation for many years, contributing to its long‑term mission and impact.

While living in Hong Kong, Simon and his family also rescued twelve dogs through the Hong Kong Dog Rescue and Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP) charities.

Young People and Education

Segantii was an early supporter of Love21, a Hong Kong charity that supports people with Down’s syndrome and autism through programmes focused on sport, nutrition and counselling. As part of this support, Segantii backed the Love21 Segantii Centre, providing Love21 with a permanent space to host its activities. Today, Love21 delivers more than 1,000 classes each month and supports around 550 families.

In 2018, Segantii became a supporter of the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired which educates blind and visually impaired children in Hong Kong. Simon Sadler and Segantii contributed through donations of learning aids and specialist equipment to support students’ education and development.

That same year, Segantii began sponsoring the youth sections of the Hong Kong University Sandy Bay Rugby Club, a family‑friendly club open to players of all ages and backgrounds. The club provides children with opportunities to develop their rugby skills while fostering a strong sense of camaraderie among players, parents, coaches, volunteers and supporters, and encouraging engagement with the wider community.

As part of this relationship, Segantii was also proud to sponsor the Lao Nagas under‑16 girls’ rugby team when they competed for the first time at the All‑Girls International Rugby Sevens Tournament in Hong Kong in March 2019. For the twelve players involved, it was their first opportunity to travel outside Laos and to compete on an international stage.

Finally, Segantii supported Angels for Orphans, now known as Angels for Children, which works with orphanages in Cambodia and Hong Kong. Segantii was an early supporter of Po Leung Kuk’s All Rounded Development Programme, which focuses on assisting young people facing academic challenges, fostering personal growth, and helping them reach their full potential.
