Personal Investments

Simon’s portfolio spans early commitments to frontier technologies such as quantum computing and blockchain all the way through to space industries, cyber insurance and medical research.

He grew up in Blackpool, a town famous for its promenade, funfairs, public attractions, and strong community. As a result, he has always held an interest in supporting cultural initiatives that bring people together. One example is through his support for the AIA Hong Kong Carnival, one of the region’s flagship community events, while he was based there.

Career in Finance

After graduating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST), Simon embarked on a career in finance and quickly rose to the top of a number of major banks, including Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.

In 2007, he founded Segantii Capital Management, named after a pre-Roman tribe from the Northwest coast of England – symbolising the “intrepid spirit” that defines his approach.

Segantii specialised in a multi-strategy investment approach. Under Simon’s leadership, the firm became one of Asia’s most prominent hedge funds, renowned as a steward of investor capital and trusted partner.

Segantii was consistently recognised for its outstanding performance, repeatedly ranking year-on-year among the top hedge funds (#4 in the Wall Street Journal’s 2018 list) both globally and regionally.

Other awards regularly received included ‘Fund of the Year’, ‘Hedge Fund of the Year’, ‘Best Asian Hedge Fund’ and ‘Best Asian Multi Strategy Hedge Fund’ across leading publications such as WSJ, Barron’s, Institutional Investor, EurekaHedge, Asian Investor and AsiaHedge.
