Royal Ascot history made in 50/1 shock winner as TBT Racing’s Ten Bob Tony pulls off 76-year first – 16 June 2026
16 June 2026: Simon Sadler’s TBT Racing celebrated a landmark moment at Royal Ascot in June as Ten Bob Tony produced a stunning late run to win the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes.
Sent off at 50/1, Ten Bob Tony delivered one of the standout stories of the opening day, coming from the rear of the field under Kieran Shoemark to win by half a length. The victory marked a first Group 1 success for Ten Bob Tony and a major milestone for TBT Racing.
Trained by Ed Walker, Ten Bob Tony arrived at Ascot following success at Epsom, where he had won the Group 3 Tattenham Corner Stakes earlier in the month.
Simon Sadler commented: “This horse is named after my Dad. That was his nickname because he used to have 50p – 10 bob – stalls on the market at Blackpool. Dad’s not here today, he’s not in the best of health, but I’m sure he’s watched it and I bet he had more on it than I did! I’m blown away.
Following the race, Ed Walker reflected on the decision to take Ten Bob Tony to Ascot and praised Simon’s willingness to compete on the biggest stage. He said: “We came out of Epsom really well and Simon Sadler is such a sporting guy. He owns a football club, he loves to have a go, loves the David v Goliath story.”
Kieran Shoemark also paid tribute to the horse’s performance, saying he travelled strongly and “turned up where it mattered”.
The Queen Anne Stakes is one of the most prestigious mile races in the racing calendar and traditionally opens the Royal Ascot meeting. With this victory, Ten Bob Tony became the longest-priced winner of the race since Garrick in 1950 – a 76-year first and a historic achievement for all those connected with the horse.
